Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
